So we had a pretty wet and soggy weekend here in Melbourne, which meant that Master Almost 4 had a case of cabin fever and needed entertaining. If he had his way we would all be playing “Firemen” all day, most days. So to keep our sanity and to encourage some variety, here are some ideas: 22 Simple Ways to Entertain a Toddler or Pre-Schooler on a Rainy Day.

  • Read a book or 3!
  • Teach them rock paper scissors
  • Jigsaws
  • Have a treasure hunt with clues
  • Make a pet rock
  • Make up stories
  • Play dress-ups
  • Bake something
  • Play-Doh
  • Watch a movie
  • Play card games like Snap or Memory
  • Make a fort out of boxes & blankets
  • Draw or paint
  • Make things out of blocks
  • Play Snakes and Ladders
  • Lego
  • Make drums out of saucepans
  • Put on a concert
  • Make jelly
  • Get crafting with googly eyes, scissors and glue
  • Role play
  • Make something fab out of a large card board box

There you go, that’s our go-to list for when we are stuck indoors. And the best bit? When it stops raining, getting out-doors, gumboots on and jumping in puddles of course! Have you tried everything on the list?  Share your suggestions in the comments below.
